As we head into a new week I have been thinking a lot about a quote from my coach and mentor, and I wanted to share this with you today.
.
He was talking about achieving your goals versus maintaining or doing just the bare minimum. He said, “I wish people knew what effort looked like. The effort it takes to grow versus to maintain is vastly different.”
.
That comment really made me think. Because unfortunately most people don’t know what true effort looks like, and once things get hard they think there is something wrong and stop.
.
I believe this is an even bigger issue then we care to realize. Most cases the reason why people don’t achieve their goals is because they don’t put in the effort that is actually required. Instead they put in a small amount of effort, experience some resistance and then give up.
.
Let’s think about the, the gap between where you are and where you want to be is effort. It’s not knowing something special that know one else knows, it’s not being blessed with some god given talent, and it certainly isn’t about being “lucky.” It’s about actually doing the work required to move you forward.
.
It’s really scary that we live in a society today that thinks it is cool and funny to be lazy and basically not give a shit. Then the ones that actually care and want to push themselves are seen as the crazy ones. How backwards is that?
.
Part of this I believe is because people do not put themselves in situations where they are forced to grow. You need to feel pressure do to the hard stuff. The hard stuff is outside out comfort zone, and what will allow you to strengthen your weaknesses.
.
For me I will willingly put myself through something I know will be hard and at times suck. Why? Because I am conditioning myself to know what effort actually looks like.
.
Currently I am pushing myself to workout every single day for the next 30 days. I’m not just doing a 15 minute workout. I’m doing a volume workout of 6-7 sets per workout full body. Is this going to suck some days? Absolutely! Second day in and already sore. But, what this is going to do is conditioning my body and force change. Change doesn’t just happen with minimal effort. Unfortunately a lot of people believe this to be true. This will also condition my mindset. There will absolutely be days where I don’t want to do it. But, if I only did what I felt like doing I would never achieve anything.
.
To achieve more you have to do what you don’t feel like doing consistently.
.
Today I really want you to question yourself and ask are you doing the minimum amount of work? Or are you actually putting the effort in that is required to move yourself forward.
