Think back to a time where you where everything seemed to be clicking and flowing. How did that make you feel. What was going on in your life at that time? I’m going to bet you felt happy right? Isn’t it funny how when we are happy everything seems to just go right, as if life is really happening for you. That state of mind is what we need to focus on.
What stops our happiness? We know how good it feels to be in that state of mind, so why is it so hard for us to stay there? Well, my take on it is just like motivation happiness is something that evolves with a conscious effort to bring it into your life. If you are not taking care of yourself or getting up everyday to go to the job you hate how can you expect happiness to just happen?
It won’t unless you set yourself up to welcome happiness into your life. Happiness is not easy at all when life throws so much at us, people piss us off, and we are constantly attacked with marketing to make us feel not good enough. I get that believe me you are not alone, even if you swear you think you are the only one you are not.
How do we promote more happiness?
It comes back to reminding yourself you are in control of how your life unfolds. Being able to decide what is worth your time and energy and what isn’t is a huge factor to creating happiness. We all know that person (this might even be you) that just can’t say no to anything or anyone. I know I used to be like that, and guess what more then not I would be unhappy. I was dealing with someone or some issue that was over taking my life. Being able to say no, and to say it knowing you are saying no because it does not contribute to your life is such an empowering feeling.
Creating your core values!
Knowing your core values will be your deciding process of what to keep and what you drop from your life. You must know what you stand for and how you want to live your life. Say family time is a must for you, and you know every Friday night is your family night, and your boss offered you overtime on Friday you are NOT going to take it. Yes I’m sure the money is tempting but it will never replace the happiness you feel by having that time with your family. Having your core values will help make that decision a lot easier. Versus the person that has no understanding of core values takes the offer then proceeds to be miserable.
So, take some time to really think what do you stand for? What matters most to you? How do you want to live your life? These may change over time which is OK! The important thing is you have essentially a blueprint to your happiness!
Keeping the flow going!
Once you have your core values figured out don’t just think about them! Put them down in writing and put it someplace you will see at the end of each day and the beginning. Just like I said above happiness is like motivation it needs to be a conscious effort. By living your life with happiness in mind you will see stress just melt away, your thoughts will become clearer, you will really be ALIVE!
